About the event

Babis workshop description: One of the issues that kept perplexing me both as a teacher and as a student of music has always been the elusive nature of the ensemble setting. Coming from the strong belief that music is the noblest form of communication and sharing, the sheer emotional power that is being distributed among the ensemble and its potential have fascinated me in conscious and unconscious ways ever since the days of participating merely as a listener without analytical insight.

Truly connecting through music transcends the realm of reality as we tend to observe it and reveals something bigger; self-realization, creativity, growth, deep connection, ego-renunciation, ultimate emotional sharing, the ability to learn and all the noble qualities innate to the beautiful human nature, flourish. The potential of this blissful communion seems to exist regardless of musical expertise. Is there a way to control this magic? What are the circumstances governing failure and success?

Over the years, my attention has shifted from the musical qualities of the relationship created within the ensemble (and with my own self), to the human qualities. Amidst rapid technological advances and the modern way of life shifting gears each decade, humans seem to be more and more alienated from their own selves and estranged from one another. We will be discussing art and music more specifically as a means to reestablish that connection, focusing on the tremendous issue of sharing, an overlooked part of the educational agenda. With practical direction, specific guidelines and a set of tools for the musician to fall back onto.
