About the event
Three vibrant voices of the new Cretan music scene invite you on a powerful journey through the soul of Crete—an evening where folk tradition breathes, dances, and transforms in real time. Kritamo, a musical ensemble rooted deeply in the island’s rich musical soil, features a programme that seamlessly weaves together age-old melodies passed down through generations with fresh, contemporary compositions in the Cretan idiom. This is not just a concert—it's a dynamic dialogue between the past and the present, where spirited dances like the pentozali ignite the stage, only to give way to tender, narrative songs of love, exile, birth, and loss. Vassilis Chatzimakris – Cretan Lyra, Voice Christos Perakis – Cretan Lute, Voice Anna Morogianni – Toubaki, Voice Together, they embody a new generation of musicians who honor the roots while fearlessly exploring the branches—where laouto riffs meet storytelling, where ancient rhythms flirt with improvisation, and where the timeless lyra speaks a language understood across borders. “Cretan music is like a tree. We are its leaves and branches, swaying with the winds of our time— but always connected to the root. Without it, there would be no leaves, no branches.” – Giorgos Xylouris (Psarogiorgis) Cretan music is more than sound—it's memory, identity, and living tradition. In a world of constant change, it offers both grounding and freedom. This forceful musical shapes Kritamo’s unique repertoire with a purpose to connect, move, and inspire. Join us for an unforgettable night where music becomes celebration—of culture, of community, and of Crete itself.
