Familiar Stranger

Familiar Stranger is a collaborative trio formed in The Hague in 2024, consisting of Jakub Gatěk (trumpet), Marcello Saracino (drums), Ali Yarici (Guitar).

The band's music conveys a strange yet familiar atmosphere that is most like itself while still rooted in tradition.

The trio blends the improvisational aspect of jazz with harmonies and rhythms influenced by late twentieth century music, while having simple yet off-the-wall melodies reminiscent of diverse folk music traditions.

The absence of a bass player adds to the responsibilities of each player, making them bring more to the music, all the while defying what it is expected of a trio.

The aggressive yet thoughtful interaction between the trumpet and guitar push each other to their limits, and interplay becomes a crucial part. This is kept in control by the drums creating quasi-minimalistic rhythmically complex patterns around what each player is doing.
